SOM79 TABLE & CHAIR
As befit a fashion luminary of the 1970s, Halston’s offices and showroom occupied an entire floor of the Olympic Tower at 654 Fifth Avenue—a modernist edifice designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. Designed specifically for this space, IKONstudio’s SOM79 chair emerges from within this intersection of the creative domains of fashion and architecture.
The SOM79 chair captures a moment where fashion, architecture, and corporate modernism intersect. The chair’s fluid lines and minimal structure reflect the understated glamour of Halston’s aesthetic, while its architectural clarity allows it to adapt seamlessly to a range of environments - office, residential, or cultural - and is designed for both performance and presence.
Designed for Halston’s suite of New York offices, SOM79 chair is defined by a lean cantilever structure that approaches minimalist sculpture in form. At ease in any setting, this stylish, polished chair embodies the ease and glamour that Halston represents as an icon of 1970s fashion.
Inspired by the SOM79 Chair, the table was re-envisioned for contemporary interiors, translating the chair’s minimalist principles into a versatile surface. Its chromed steel legs form a distinctive “H” shape, visible through the clear glass top, emphasizing the structural logic as part of the visual identity. Sleek and adaptable, the table echoes the same precision and balance found in the chair.
