louis kahn

Louis Kahn (1901-1974), remembered for his striking, monumental buildings is regarded as one of the most influential 20th century architects. From the renowned Salk Institute in La Jolla, California to the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar National Assemble complex in Bangladesh, Kahn's work broke with the conventions of the International Style to explore simple geometric forms at grand scale, interweaving modernist gestures with principles he observed in ancient monuments and temples. His use of materials, from glass, to steel, to brick and concrete often contrasted the monumental with the elegant or intimate, perhaps best evidenced in his art museums.
